Spring Cleaning

Living a clutter-free life is not only preferable but essential when living in a big city with, what I call, micro-apartments, like New York City.

With limited space, comes great responsibility… To be creative. While it is nearly impossible to replace your entire living room in an effort to live a more clutter-free lifestyle, with the help of great furniture and the advice of an even better Interior Designer, your vision can become reality. Charmed Life caught up with Interior Designer and Styling Consultant, Stephanie Cohen, to speak about redecorating and decluttering.

“Many of my clients come to work with me because they are overwhelmed by the idea of completely restyling their home.” Stephanie said, “Interior designers are usually hired because they have the capability to visualize the room as a whole, without being consumed by pressure. When working without the help of an Interior Designer, my suggestion is to focus on one piece at a time. Start with your statements piece and gradually move on to your accent pieces, you will be amazed by the limited stress and most importantly, the final display.”

On Stephanie’s website, she displays multiple different examples of how to create your living room sanctuary piece by piece. We decided to look at one of her examples more closely…

Following Stephanie’s advice, we’re going to begin our cleansing with a Bernhardt Upholstery Chelsea Sofa. The sofa should be the center piece of your living room while also capturing the very essence of your sanctuary. A large, white sofa, like this one, is perfect to brighten any room.

From horizontal to vertical, our next addition to the piece by piece replacement is the Emporium Home Stud Etagere.

e·ta·gereˌātäˈZHer/noun- A piece of furniture with a number of open shelves for displaying ornaments.

You will be amazed by the difference that the ornaments and details will make in your living space, however, what you house them in is just as important as the ornaments themselves.

Speaking of ornaments… You’re going to love the way the Small Brass Sputnik reflects the light into every direction of the room. Not only is it a conversation starter, but it is a modern piece that you’ll find fits perfectly in any room.

Make it stand out

Though we all dream of floor to ceiling windows and an ample amount of outdoor space, the reality is that apartments in big cities typically have a limited amount of light. While you’ve done all the leg work to create a beautifully enlightening space, in some cases, you’ll need an extra light source. These decorative table lamps by Visual Comfort Lighting is the answer to all of your natural lighting needs. We suggest purchasing Halogen light bulbs as they produce a light the closest to actual sunlight!

Center piece.jpg

Nothing says adulthood quite like going shopping for your first center piece, (because the pile of intertwined phone and computer chargers on your table, although has a futuristic avant garde tone, should not be the highlight of your room). The Turquoise and Gray Porcelain Collection bowl will add a nice comfy and homey feel to your living room, that will take you out of the rough and tough city and bring you back your grandma’s house in the country.

Throw rug.jpg

To conclude our cleanse, the final piece that will tie together your new living room is the Jaipur Cordon Ribbon Shaggy Rug. With the rug coming in six different colors from High Rise to Scarlet, you will find the perfect match for the new look your new living room is trying to achieve. Plus, this plush rug is made out of 100% Polyester, and will always make it feel like you are walking on Cloud 9.

Finally… Clutter free at last! You may have believed that you’d never see the day, but here it is. Your apartment gone from the ugly step sister, to the bell of the ball. But what will the final product actually look like…..
