3 Lip Scrub Recipes- Manage Your Kissable Lips

Our lips are a huge part of our appearance.

We understand the world doesn’t make it easy for them to look Rosie Huntington-Whitely level all the time.

They suffer through the harsh winter, the dozens of potential lipsticks before a night out, and the men, women, and babies we kiss. However, don’t get me wrong this is no excuse to slack off on protection and treatment. Going out with chapped lips is unprofessional, unappealing, and not to mention probably painful! And no, licking your lips when they’re dry does not help. In fact, the saliva you release makes them dryer than they were before. You might be thinking-well, darn (or something more vulgar). Don’t worry- no lips are helpless!

Try a lip scrub. You can buy one from Lush Cosmetics for $9.95 or make your own! It’s an easy, fun, and tasty journey to amazing lips. There are dozens (and dozens and dozens and dozens!) of recipes, but from my research, these three are the most popular:

BROWN SUGAR & VANILLA LIP SCRUB RECIPE

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

  • 1/2 tsp honey

  • 1tsp olive oil

  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • Mixing bowl

Combine the honey and olive oil in the mixing bowl. These two are natural moisturizers, so they work great. Add in the brown sugar to act as a light exfoliant. Lastly, add in vanilla extract for our own selfish pleasure. Scrub, scrub, scrub away your dryness.

PEPPERMINT CHOCOLATE COFFEE LIP SCRUB RECIPE

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp castor oil

  • 1/2 tsp cocoa

  • 1/2 tsp coffee grounds

  • apx. 3drops of peppermint oil extract

Mix sugar and castor oil together. If you can’t find castor oil sitting around, olive oil works too! Granulated sugar is better for this recipe due to its coarse feel. Add the peppermint oil extract and mix the cocoa and coffee grounds separated. Combine both mixes for a beautiful brown lip saver. Mmm, is it just me or did Starbucks open a new location on our faces?

SENSITIVE SKIN YOGURT & OATS LIP SCRUB RECIPE

  • 1 tbsp yogurt

  • 1 tbsp milk

  • 2 tbsp finely ground oatmeal

This might just be the easiest recipe of them all. Mix all ingredients together in no particular order. This creamy recipe is perfect if you want a no irritation, smoothing scrub.

After scrubbing your lips, don’t forget to moisturize and apply lip balm. Do NOT fall into the trap of commercial(unnatural) Hello Kitty chapstick and Coca-Cola Flavored lip balm! You’ve gone this far, we’re rooting for you now. One quick trick is to apply the lip balm, i.e. Blistex Lip Medex, really thick right before bed.

Wake up with lips that are the softest and most hydrated they’ve ever been. Also remember, this is slowly becoming the lipliner generation… Lipliner is very drying. That does not mean the only color on your lips has to be from the light tint of balm. Apply your lipstick but just like all the other makeup on your face, take it off every night and scrub your lips. Now, the future of your lips is up to you. Be Angelina or be gone!
